im yelling the truth hes on my twitter account and he asked for $1500 for a 4 track ep, i know i have a talent in music and running a label. i had a bhangra label in Canada for a few years and it was the biggest there but that industry is u pay my big fee to the artist and thats it u can get a bhangra album for $1000 and never pay anything back to them but dubstep producers are ripping labels of so they start their on labels up cause they knw no label will pay that much.

Amorpha DM me via soundcloud or twitter so we can talk bro.

The way most labels run is that you get a percentage (around 50%) of the money you make from sales. I find all this paying up front for an EP business quite strange/uncommon tbh

the only way I could see an artist charging a label for a release is if they sent it off for mastering themselves. something's pretty wrong with the music biz otherwise

I don't think you posting up other people's releases and pretending they're on your label counts as talent and I think it might be one of the reasons people don't want to sign their tunes to you.

wait .. so, producers have to pay labels to even get their release signed? then in return, producers get whatever agreed percentage of sales afterwards, without any inkling of how the release may be received and how much it may sell? that's pretty fucked

question: how much from tour sales do producers usually get? i have to assume they get more per show than they do per release, percentage-wise at least. not to mention, ticket sales are beginning to skyrocket with how the EDM business is blowing up, especially in The States the past year or two.

No producers dont pay to get stuff signed. They sign the tune at no cost and make a percentage of the sales.
Apparently some artists are asking for money upfront from the label to sign stuff but it's quite uncommon/seems more common within brostep apparently.

I shall clear you all up on this from a Resonance Audio point of view:

1 Me @ Resonance Signs an artists

2 dependant on artists we agree a deal 50/50 split 90% of the time, sometimes pay upfront as it does make life easier, i give a set fee up front and then take all royalties, no messing around every quarter. It also depends wether i have cash which 9 times out of 10 is no :'D

3 artists NEVER pay me a penny, i pay for mastering, artwork releases etc as it is my job, would never expect them to do so.

Hope this clears it all for ya'll

How do you "sign" an artist who lives far away?

Send a message via AIM to samsamsam
Basically you can negotiate about royalties or in a way "selling" your tune to the record label. Like they would offer you [insert amount here] to have that track signed to the label and w/e they want to do with it is up to them.

ofc its up to artists to make sure they are getting a fair deal for their hard work
